Beauty comes in blond, black, brown, red and ALL the colors of the rainbow

When I was a little girl I adored my ballet teacher.  She was a tall elegant woman with short black hair, unique yet striking features and a long beautiful neck.  Every move she made was as graceful as a swan.  She took me downtown to purchase my very first pair of ballet shoes, as she did with all her students.  This was our special initiation into “point shoes”.  Sometimes I would just gaze at her as she taught, thinking to myself how beautiful and powerful she was both inside and out.  I loved Jeanette.

As I grew older I became aware of the social preference towards women with long blond hair, perfect button noses, and the typical “barbie” look. A beautiful look no doubt, but left me wondering why there was this mainstream “preference”.  Perhaps it is due to the images that have been programmed into our brains since childhood via television commercials, Disney princesses and barbie.  As we got older, the images of singers, models, porn stars and other powerful figures in mainstream pop culture reflected much of the same “look”.  I find this sad in a way, because It leaves both men and women boxed in to some degree, believing that anything other than this “ideal look” is less than perfect.

Here’s what I have to say about it NOW.  Beauty shines forth from within, and whatever your natural, or chosen preference of style is, IS the MOST beautiful thing in the world.  This means we are ALL beautiful when we believe ourselves to be, no matter what our hair color, ethnic background, age etc. is.  I choose to only surround myself with, individuals who consciously jive with this expanded concept of inclusion and appreciation for ALL.  There are many different flowers in a field, all WILD and BEAUTIFUL!  Time to get the head OUT of the BOX and INTO LIFE!!!
